Beliefs are the cause of all non-physical stress.
First lets quickly defined non-physical stress. Non-physical stress is any stress other than a physical activity having to do with physical movement or muscular activity.
Beliefs are the foundation of all human thinking and perceptions. Beliefs determine the way you see and perceive everything. Human beings begin establishing their belief system from the time they are born. Everything a human being sees and experiences as a child is the foundation for everything that they will believe in the future as an adult, unless as an adult they consciously choose to change these beliefs. For the average human being approximately 90% of their beliefs are established by the age of six years old. Beliefs established after this age are usually induced by perceived traumatic experiences. Secondary beliefs are established all throughout life but are always based on and referenced to the foundational beliefs established early in childhood.
What you saw as a child set the foundation for the way you would see your entire life in the future. For example when you saw your mother fight with your father or saw your father fight with your mother there may have been established a belief that women and men argue or fight. Another example: if you saw your father hit your mother you may have formed a belief that men beat women.
These are very simple and basic examples but fairly common. Based upon these two examples you may have established relationships where, if you were female, you allow your husband to beat you or hit you. You may have also allowed men to emotionally, verbally or mentally beat you. All of this created great stress on your physical body as well as tensions within yourself.
You may have formed a simple belief that when it is raining it is very sad. As an adult when it rains you feel depressed. This depression creates internal stress that may appear to be the weather's fault. So this then reinforces your belief that rainy days make you sad. When in truth this is merely a perception and no real need for stress. In truth rainy days are magnificent days, the plants are very happy, rain gives you water to drink and nourish all of nature as well as human beings.
By these simple examples you can begin to see how beliefs affect the way you perceive things which in turn creates the potential for you to create your own inner stress or tension. Stress is not something natural although it is common. There is nothing outside of you that creates tension or stress. Only your own perceptions and judgments create the stress that you feel.
The only way to permanently relieve stress is to change your beliefs and perceptions. This is a process that is a bit complicated and yet quite simple. This process cannot be explained properly here so we suggest that you read our upcoming articles and do some research on changing beliefs. Remember the only way to permanently relieve stress or inner tension is to change your beliefs.
